Tuacahn

Kimberlee's question reminded me that I should tell those who don't know what Tuacahn is a little about the place.

Tuacahn is a couple of things: mainly it is a center for the performing arts, and also it is a high school (public charter school). Whereas some charter schools might be geared more to general academics, or science, or whatever, it is a high school for the performing arts. Kimberlee, it is a place that Alexa would love!

In the summer, they put on professional productions in the outdoor ampitheatre. Absolutely gorgeous setting. They normally do two big productions - one on MWF and the other on TThSa. This year it is Sound of Music and Les Miserables, obviously. In other years, we've seen Fiddler on the Roof, Oklahoma, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Beauty and the Beast...what else? Anyway, it's usally a Broadway show. This year they are doing SOM the first half of the summer, and then they are doing "Big River" which I would like to see but will be back in Louisiana by that time. Les Miserables will continue all summer. The owners of Les Miserables are keeping close tabs on it and only allowing it to be performed by 8 professional theatres each year, so it's a compliment to Tuacahn that they are one of those chosen. THe actors in these shows are paid and are from all over the country, although many are from Utah. Very excellent talent. These shows are kind of expensive since they are professional, but they are well worth it. They do a great job.

They also have an indoor theatre, where they do a high school production. They bring in kids from all over the state of Utah, but they can't be professionals. We saw Les Mis, high school version there a few years ago and it was excellent. This year they are doing High School Musical in that theatre, but we aren't going because we are out of money and I am HSM'd out!

They also have various concerts and such throughout the year there, and a live nativity every Christmas.

BTW, you pronounce it two-a-con and it is outside of St. George, Utah. I highly recommend it.
