Last Friday, my sister Bonnie came down south to visit us at mom's house and brought her three youngest kids, Alexa, Hayden, and Katie. Alexa is great buds with Morgan and Elise, and Katie and Ashlyn are just a few months apart.
So, we picked up Ryan's kids (other than the new baby) and took everyone for a day of fun in Washington City. First we spent some time visiting at Ryan and Jen's (I posted those pictures already), then we went to the dinosaur museum at Johnson farm. It's pretty cool - Dr. Johnson was just doing work around the place in 2000 when he turned over a huge piece of rock with some equipment and noticed that the underside of it had tracks in it. He stopped his work and called in the experts, and they fully excavated the place. It was determined that this area was once on the shores of Lake Bonneville, and the dinosaurs would come for water and leave tracks. They have the largest single "track" in the world here! It's pretty fun! Just recently, they have built the museum right over the excavated site, and you can walk through and see the different tracks and fossils in the ground.
After the fun museum, we had a picnic and it was fun except that watching 9 kids and helping them each make their own sandwich is quite wild! Ryan was able to get off early and come join us at this point.
Then we went to the new rec center that they opened in Washington. It was quite the experience! When we came out of the dressing room, we noticed that everyone was out of the pool and that the lifeguards were fishing for "human waste". Yeah, gross. So they got it out of the pool, and then told everyone that it would take 30 minutes or so to recirculate the water. Finally, they were able to get in (Jen and the new baby had joined us by then), and they had a blast swimming on the all the slides and fun stuff they have. They got about an hour and 15 minutes in, when the whistles blew again for another human waste issue. Arghh. We decided that was our clue to go home, so we packed up and headed home to grandmas for some sloppy joes. All in all, a very fun day - but boy, they sure need to train some parents about the pooey issue at the pool. Yuck!

We love that museum! It's fun to see you at all the places we go when we go home. Maybe we'll be there at the same time someday :o)

The dinosaur museum looks like such a FUN place - I've never heard of such a place! Cool! And that rec center pool looks awesome! Why don't we have stuff like that around here? No fair! I really didn't know there were such places like this. I've been wanting to take the kids to Blue Bayou, but it costs like $39 a person! Ugh! This rec center I see here on your blog looks like a fine place to go! LOL about the poop evacutions! Seriously, what is wrong with those parents? HELLO!

Amy - we haven't gone to the splash park yet, but I have heard of it. Did you know there is one in Mandeville?
Kimberlee - I'm with you on having some affordable fun in LA! It's so expensive to join the gym or go to the water park. This place in Washington was fun and nice, and the best part was that it was only $5 for out of towners, cheaper for residents!
I do know about Mandeville, just haven't made the trek yet :o) It's so easy to put the sprinkler under the trampoline and fill up the kiddie pool. I suppose it's laziness really!
